Alcúdia, Mallorca, at a glance
Alcúdia sits on the north coast, between the bays of Pollença and Alcúdia. The name covers three quite different places: the medieval old town behind its walls, the Roman site of Pol·lèntia and the beach areas along the coast. It helps to plan them separately.
The historic centre is built for walking. The town walls date from the 14th century and have 26 towers. A walk along the Camí de Ronda on the walls is described as free, but not every stretch of wall is open at all times. Pol·lèntia is a separate sight and has its own opening hours and ticket.

Old Alcúdia: the old town and its walls
The old town is geared to pedestrians, which makes Alcúdia town a place to explore on foot. Two gates, the Porta del Moll and the Porta de Xara, connect it historically with the harbour side. Allow an hour or two to walk through the centre and, where it is open, a section of the Camí de Ronda.
The old town is not the beach. The beach areas along the bay have their own character and are described below, so check how far a hotel is from the sand before you book. See where to stay in Mallorca for how the areas compare.

Pol·lèntia: the Roman site
Pol·lèntia was a Roman town and lies outside the medieval centre. It is its own visit, not part of the walk along the walls. Admission is €4 according to the municipality's 2026 summer sheet. The sheet lists no age categories and no extra online fee.
The 2026 summer hours are in the table below. Public holidays are closed, and the last entry is one hour before closing. The sheet gives no end date for the summer period and no winter hours, so check the current hours before you travel outside summer.

Beaches near Alcúdia
The coast around the town has several beaches with different services. For all of Mallorca, see our beach guide.
Playa de Muro
About 5.2 km long and divided into Sector I, Sector II, Es Comú and Es Capellans. It is mostly sand with a flat coastline. Es Comú is described as a natural, protected section, while other parts have beach services. Parking is in the surrounding streets, and there is no single beach car park price.
Platja de Sant Pere
A sand beach of about 100 m at Es Mal Pas, near Bonaire, with rocky edges and a view across the Bay of Pollença. In summer lifeguards, showers, a beach bar and sunbed and parasol hire are listed.
Playa de Alcúdia and Playa de Muro
The beach area along the bay is often called Playa de Alcúdia. Playa de Muro is the neighbouring coast, so Playa de Muro and Alcúdia are usually combined in one trip even though they are two separate places.
Holidays in Alcúdia, Majorca
For holidays to Alcúdia, decide first whether you want the old town or the beach, because the walled centre and the bay are not the same place. Alcúdia, Majorca, works as a base for the north: boats to the beach at Formentor leave in summer from Port d'Alcúdia, also written Port Alcúdia.
Getting around from Alcúdia
Alcúdia is a base for the north of the island. Check the timetables for the day you travel.
Formentor shuttle
Bus 334 links Alcúdia, Port de Pollença, the Mirador del Colomer, the beach and the lighthouse. In the 2026 season it ran roughly every 35 minutes from Port de Pollença during the restricted period. It is not a year-round fixed service.
Cap de Formentor guide →Airport bus
An airport line, the A32, is listed towards Can Picafort via Alcúdia and Playa de Muro. Use it as a guide and confirm the current timetable with the island bus network.
Airport and getting there →Boat from the bay
In summer, boat connections to the beach at Formentor are listed from Port de Pollença and Port d'Alcúdia. Check the operator's schedule and price for your date.
Boat trips →A simple plan for a day
Start in the old town early, walk the streets and a section of the walls, then drive or ride to Pol·lèntia during its opening hours. Plan the beach for the afternoon. In summer, check the Pol·lèntia hours before you set the order, because Friday and Saturday close at 13:00.
If you want to continue to the lighthouse at Formentor, read the access rules first. In 2026 the restricted period ran from 15 May to 18 October, daily from 10:00 to 22:00, and Alcúdia is one of the connection points for the shuttle.
