Sa Calobra at a glance
Sa Calobra sits on the north-west coast of Mallorca, at the end of the Ma-2141, a serpentine road down through the Serra de Tramuntana. The cove is also the mouth of the Torrent de Pareis, a gorge protected as a natural monument in the municipality of Escorca.
There are two main ways to get there. You can drive the mountain road, or you can take the boat from Port de Sóller, a crossing of about one hour. Which one suits you depends on how you feel about narrow bends and on the weather, because the boat is weather dependent.

Driving the Ma-2141
The road to Sa Calobra is a winding mountain road with tight bends, so allow time and drive slowly. It is a road for careful drivers, and many people prefer the boat or a taxi. Taxis in Palma charge a mountain surcharge of €8.52 for Sa Calobra, Cala Tuent and Cap de Formentor, according to the 2025 tariff.
Check parking prices and the current state of the road on the day. After heavy rain the road and the boat service can both be affected. On 18 October 2026 the regional government issued a red storm warning for Mallorca, with school closures the next day. Do not make unnecessary trips in such conditions.
If you start from Sóller, our guide to the Sóller train shows how to reach Port de Sóller without a car. A drive along the mountains also passes Valldemossa and Deià.

Torrent de Pareis: the gorge
The Torrent de Pareis is a protected natural monument. A short visit from Sa Calobra to the mouth of the gorge is one thing. The full walk through the gorge is another, and it is a demanding route with climbing sections, slippery rock and patchy mobile coverage.
- Weather: do not start if a rain or storm warning is in force. The gorge can flood suddenly.
- Guidance: the authority recommends local guides and ropes for the full crossing.
- Rules: no fire and no drones, and do not disturb animals.
Treat the full crossing as a mountain route, not a beach walk.
