Cap de Formentor at a glance
Cap de Formentor is the northern tip of Mallorca, with a lighthouse at the end of the road and a long drive along the cliffs. The road is the Ma-2210, which starts in Port de Pollença. In summer the island council limits who may drive it, so the plan for your day starts with the access rules.
The 2026 restriction period ran from 15 May to 18 October 2026, every day from 10:00 to 22:00. That period ended on 18 October 2026. The end of the period does not prove that the road is open in every weather. Check the current status before you set off, and do not assume that the 2026 dates will repeat next year.

Formentor access rules 2026
The road on the Ma-2210 from Port de Pollença is split into two sections. These are the rules for the 2026 period, from 15 May to 18 October, daily 10:00–22:00.
| Section | Kilometres | Rule during the period |
|---|---|---|
| Beach section | km 2 to 8.7 | Limited authorised parking |
| Lighthouse section | km 8.7 to 19.6 | No driving in either direction for private vehicles without authorisation |
- No blanket permission: cars and motorbikes without authorisation are not simply allowed in. Parking at the beach does not mean you may drive on to the lighthouse.
- Early drive: entering before 10:00 does not let you leave later. In the lighthouse section you must be out by 09:59 at the latest.
- Special permits: residents and people transporting travellers with reduced mobility can apply under a procedure set out beforehand.
- On foot and by bike: pedestrians and cyclists may pass.
Cap de Formentor and Pollença area tours
Guided trips to Cap de Formentor, Port de Pollença and the north coast, with live prices and availability.
Bus 334 to the lighthouse
The shuttle line 334 links Alcúdia, Port de Pollença, the Mirador del Colomer, the beach, Cala Murta and Cala Figuera and the lighthouse. In the 2026 season it mostly ran every 35 minutes from Port de Pollença during the regular period. There is no fixed all-year frequency, so check the timetable for the next season when it is published.
The bus is the simple answer to the driving ban. You do not need an authorisation and you do not need to find parking, and it works well with a plan to start in Alcúdia, which has a walled old town and Roman ruins. Read our Alcúdia guide for those.
Taxis in Palma charge an €8.52 mountain surcharge for Cap de Formentor, according to the 2025 tariff. Ask about it before you set off from the south of the island.

Playa de Formentor and the lighthouse
Playa de Formentor, also called Cala Pi de sa Posada, has pines behind the sand and a small pier. The paid car park lies about 400 m from the beach. The tourism page also mentions summer boat links from Port de Pollença and Port d'Alcúdia. Ask at the port for the schedule and price.
The lighthouse stands at the end of the road, above the cliffs. Treat it as a viewpoint, and bring water. If you want a swim, read our beaches guide for the options near Pollença and Alcúdia.

Ways to reach the lighthouse
Based on the 2026 rules, during the restriction period.
| Way | What applies |

| Own car or motorbike | Lighthouse section closed without authorisation, beach section has limited authorised parking |
| Taxi | Mountain surcharge of €8.52 under the 2025 Palma tariff |
| On foot or by bike | Allowed to pass |
How to plan the day
During the restriction period
Use bus 334 or go before 10:00 and be out of the lighthouse section by 09:59. Do not rely on a beach parking ticket for the road beyond.
Outside the period
The 2026 period ended on 18 October. Check the status of the road, especially after storms, because the end date is not a promise of access in every weather.
Combine with the Tramuntana
Formentor is in the north. For the Torrent de Pareis and the boat from Port de Sóller, see Sa Calobra and the Sóller train.
